VALDOSTA, GA – The South Georgia Diversity Committee (SGDC), an initiative of Greater Valdosta United Way, invested $3,500 in The Enay Foundation's conflict resiliency work among foster care programs in the South Georgia region. The SGDC is committed to supporting initiatives that promote social justice, economic empowerment, education, and cultural enrichment, creating a vibrant and inclusive community where every voice is heard and valued. Conflict resiliency is one of the pillars of the Enay Foundation's work, as it directly contributes to healthier interactions between youth and their caregivers in environments that are often rife with competing interests, power struggles, and poor outcomes. When youth see adults as trusted allies, they stay connected to their support systems longer, and have greater chances of clearing the Foster Care Cliff.
The Enay Foundation built its conflict resiliency program in partnership with the Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire, which has developed and run successful school and community-based programs in the Savannah, GA area for years.
“The Mediation Center sought us out to help connect their work with the world of foster care, and together we were able to expand the program's reach," says Enay Foundation CEO Elton Dixon. "They entrusted us to help refine the program to speak more directly and effectively to the issues foster care group homes and their stakeholders face, and the results and feedback have been phenomenal. The young people who embrace the program amaze us; the bar is set high, and they are eager to leap it. They want this skillset in their lives."
“We believe in the power of local community leaders to effect positive change, and we actively seek projects that address inequalities and promote unity," says CEO Michael Smith. “The Enay Foundation works hard to help some of the most vulnerable students in our region, and their results are proven and backed by data. The GVUW is excited to support and partner with the Enay Foundation."
